Fun, fitness and friendship. That is the focus of the Aileen Poynter Irish Dancers, who have been practising, performing and competing in traditional Irish Dancing for over 40 years in Launceston. Principal Aileen Poynter provides a welcoming and encouraging environment for dancers of all ages. Our youngest class members generally commence around kindergarten-age, and there is no upper age limit. Classes are offered for novice dancers right through to the Adult/Beginner class in both solo and team (ceili) dancing. Dancers wishing to compete may attend the two annual Tasmanian competitions, and opportunities to compete interstate arise from time-to-time. Competition is entirely optional and dancers are welcome to attend classes simply to learn and enjoy this energetic art form, or to perform at a range of community displays.
